CJSW Call for Artists

A call for Funding Drive Artists!

CJSW is looking for artists interested in creating a work of art for our radio art installation series in support of our 2011 Funding Drive. We’re asking artists to turn a radio into a workable piece of art. There are no limits on the artist’s ability to be creative with their design. All we ask is the radio be operational afterward so it is still possible to tune into CJSW 90.9 FM. We will provide a small project budget to interested artists! Not only that--your work will be on display throughout Funding Drive and be part of our pledge incentive giveaways!

If you’re interested in being one of our Radio Art Project artists and/or have questions about the project please get in touch with Kat Lord at (403) 220-3902 or

'Does anybody have any pot?' - The Soft Pack, The Legion Sled 2011

Day Two: Rock me Gently/Good Vibrations

Day two of Sled Island Music and Arts Festival was like any other; full frontal nudity, Cyndi Lauper, and excessive body shattering good fun. Here are my highlights:

Lee Ranaldo (Central United Church, all ages) - Ranaldo took the stage after Zola Jesus did their interpretive flash mob all over the pews. He began by weaving himself through the crowd and creating his frequencies between and around the several amps set up in the church. What struck me immediately was the video projection behind Ranaldo. Festival organizers say the Ranaldo suggested a tape be played that his wife made, so they popped it in. Full frontal man bush and ta-tas for the all ages group in a church, perfect background scenery for the musings…

DEP Does Sled 2011: Day One

DEP reviews from day one at  Sled Island Music and Arts Festival in Calgary Alberta!! Days two and three coming up. KEEP CALGARY AWESOME!

DAY ONE: Deep Down Underground

I headed into the deep confines of Calgary's 'Distillery' on Wednesday night for the first time, having seen all the pics of previous years with drummers scaling the concave dome above the dance floor. My expectations were pleasantly confirmed. I grabbed a Mill St. and took it in as the club became hotter and more packed than I ever imagined I could stand. But I did stand, held the underground and here are my highlights for a night of music that changed my life.

OK people, I am about to disclose what I am not sure a lot of people know or understand. And to do so makes me feel gitty and somewhat perplexed, but I must I must...Because I believe it to be true and it is F-ING AWESOME.

LEGS = TIMBER TIMBRE. No seriously. Look up the band LEGS from Winnipeg on the internet. Do it. not much hey? Now go to sle…
